Forgiveness
(Tarek Marroushi)
There was once a ,woman who loved Jesus. One day, she humbly confided to her
priest that at night she often had 'visions of her Lord.
The priest, somewhat skeptical, decided to test her. "Let me ask you to do
something for me. When you next have a visitation from Christ, and he speaks to
you, ask him what terrible sin your priest committed when he was in the
seminary." The sin of which the priest was thinking was something he had done
decades before. It was not known to anyone; he had never confessed it. For all
those years - even though he had led an exemplary life since then - the weight
of guilt had kept him from truly opening himself to God's joy and peace. In his
heart of hearts he felt he never could be forgiven.
The woman assented to ask the priest's request. A few days later she returned
and asked to see him again. Greetin her, the priest said, "well, did Jesus come
to you in your meditation?"
"Yes, he did." the woman answered.
"And did you ask him what sin I committed in the seminary?" the priest went on.
"Yes, I asked him."
"Well, what did he say?"
The woman softly replied: "He said, 'I don't remember.'"
